Moon Milk: The Latest IG and Pinterest Trend Hitting Your Feed.

I’m sure you guys have heard and seen alllllll about this new moon milk trend popping up on your feed. Those creamy whites, golden glows, and fluffy pretty pinks. What are they exactly? Um hello they are the best thing like ever! I usually make my little concoction before bedtime to help me sleep, hence why they named it moon milk; BUT I’m also an avid day time consumer as well.

What’s in it?

Moon Milk consists of your choice nut milk beverage, warmed-up and then infused with herbs and spices. It can be garnished with edible flowers, spices, herbs, or a pip of honey.

Moon Milk supposedly came from Ayurvedic medicine, a centuries-old holistic healing system, and features several Ayurvedic ingredients, such as turmeric and ashwagandha, a plant said to have anti-inflammatory properties.

So does it actually help with sleep?

The ashwagandha in some moon milk, helps with promoting a calm peaceful state of well-being, as well as the tumeric may lower inflammation, which can create a sense of calm before bedtime. Depending on what spices and herbs you’re putting in it and their benefits, moon milk may or may not help you achieve a more zenful, peaceful slumber. I’d say it’s more likely the ritual of a warm beverage that helps aid relaxation but either way these colorful, frothy potions are delicious and totally worth trying.

I’m all about my routines and rituals so if you’re like me and like to wind down and have a special step by step process, try including one to your bedtime routine. add your favorite adaptogen and start counting those sheep!

How to make:

So I have two routes for you because as per usual I’m all about harmony. Although both are easy and quick I’m going to give you the fast and faster ways to make these babies. The Golden Tumeric Latte is the recipe for today. Gluten free, Vegan, Dairy Free.

Option one (from scratch):

Ingredients- 1Cup Coconut Milk (or nut milk of choice)
-1 tablespoon Honey or Maple Syrup for vegan
-1 teaspoon Ground Turmeric
– 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
-1/4 teaspoon Ginger

Instructions-

Combine all ingredients in a small pot over medium heat.

Heat for 10-15 minutes while whisking occasionally. Do not bring mixture to a boil.

Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Or, cool for 5 minutes then transfer to a blender, add ice and blend until frothy, iced latte.

Option two (instant packet):

Ingredients- 1 Cup of Coconut Milk (or water for even quicker latte)

1 package of Foursigmatic Golden Tumeric Latte

Instructions- Same as above, stir milk until warm OR boil water.

Pour into cup.

Add packet to cup, stir, enjoy! Super quick, super simple and mega yummy!

*For extra creamy heaven I turned coconut milk into whipped cream and added a scoop of that into the instant packet/water. Hence why this one wasn’t as golden.

Now let’s talk about Foursigmatic. I discovered this brand back in January while I was looking for a coffee alternative. After stumbling upon this brand I fell absolutely in love with their hot cocoa mix (more in depth blog to come on all their different kinds soon).

After trying a few and looking more into their background and brand I was hooked. I literally do not let my kitchen go unstocked with this stuff!

This mushroom based company hails all the way from Finland and they do not disappoint. Even if you hate mushrooms you’ll love Foursigmatic. Their teas, coffees, elixirs, and even edible beauty products do not taste like our weird little contorted alien shroomy friends. They do however give you all the benefits!

Mushrooms and adaptogens are some of the world’s most nutritious foods. But they get shiit(ake) on constantly for fickle taste opinions.
Even if they’re not your cup of tea, you’ll be amazed by how easy and delicious adding ‘shrooms to your favorite daily drinks can be. Whether you’re a black coffee, latte, hot cacao, or tea person, we have a drink made for you.

The Golden Latte contains, Organic shiitake mushroom (500mg) organic turmeric, organic tulsi, organic ginger, organic black pepper, organic stevia, organic coconut palm sugar, and organic coconut milk powder.

It is also vegan, paleo, gluten free, and caffeine free.

For more info on Foursigmatic go to http://www.foursigmatic.com and be sure to follow them on Instagram @foursigmatic for all the shroomy goodness!

Happy Moon Milkin’!!

My top 8 new favorite finds – Vegan & gluten free!

Guys this gluten free, almost vegan thing ain’t no joke! For someone who loves the convenience of a one stop shop, this definitely hasn’t been easy. So here I am today now shopping at a few different places because god forbid every brand be in one spot. (Note these are things I’ve found here in Canada)

I wanted to make a list of some of the great finds I’ve scored lately and where to get them so I can save you the headache! I wish future me thought of this so it was already written and present me didn’t have to fuck around and do it herself..myself? Whatever. You get the point. Ok so here goes it!

Meat aka Veat:
Upton’s Naturals Jackfruit- The few I’ve found come in BBQ, Thai Curry, and Original. I haven’t tried the Original yet as I like a lil extra flavor already on my JF. Ok so I’m now a HUGE fan of jackfruit. I tried it for my first time at Surf City Blitz Festival in Huntington Beach and since then I can’t not have this in my fridge.

Vegan, Gluten Free and non GMO
Found at Nature’s Fare and Choices Market

Gardein Ground Beef- I use to like the Yves brand best for ground beef (still like, it’s just now in second place). This brand however, I prefer better! They also have a massive product selection. Fake chicken, fishless filets, crabless crab cakes, even sweet and sour porkless bites! I’ll definitely be trying many of these soon.

Vegan, Gluten Free, Non GMO
Found at Nature’s Fare, Choices Market and Superstore

CHEEZ:
Daiya Dairy Free Shredded Cheese- I’ve tried both kinds, mozzarella and cheddar, mostly for vegan sauces to add some thickness but have since then tried it in a few dishes and I must say for someone who’s an insane real cheese freak, I actually am quite surprised by this stuff. Melts just like real cheese and has the same texture and flavor when mixed into your dish. Their website even has a ton of recipes to try with their various items and I’m LIVING for them!

Vegan, Gluten Free, Soy Free, Peanut Free
Found at Nature’s Fare, Superstore, Save-On and Choices Market

Spread Em Kitchen Co- Alright everyone, stop what you’re doing and go get this stuff like NOW. To date, my all time favorite Cheez substitute, like ever! I’ve only tried the Jalepeno Lemon and Chive & Garlic, and both are straight fire. The creamy texture is perfect for dipping, spreading (hence the name which is already hilarious and clever) and sauces. I’ve made ranch dip out of them and they are just so bomb. Another Canadian company that is a new staple in my fridge. MUST TRY! Their site has some tasty recipes as well.

Found at Nature’s Fare

Snacky Snacks:
Hippie Snacks Califlower Crisps- OMFG I randomly stumbled upon these delicious little fuckers while on a road trip to the middle of nowhere and they blew my mind. A) how did I not know these existed and B) where can I get a lifetime supply?! Simple as they sound, just Califlower crisps with some sea salt. Perfect lil road bites.

Cauliflower Crisps

Non GMO, Gluten Free, Plant Based
Found these at Nesters Market, can also order them online thru Amazon

Noble Jerky Teriyaki- When I use to eat meat beef jerky was a stable after I had too many hits from the bong (half kidding). Since I haven’t eaten it in years or bong hoots for that matter I kind of forgot how good it was. This was another random find at Winners in their check out lane and I’m hooked!! Tastes exactly like what I think I remember beef jerky tasted like.
Vegan, Non GMO, Soy based

Found at Winners and Nature’s Fare, also sold online

True North Gluten Free Baked Is Best Crackers- Alright these are a Game Changer! I’ve found it so hard to find gluten free snacks with little, if none, sugar added that still tasted great and these exceeded my expectations. Not only that but they’re made right here in BC!! WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! I’m such a needy B when it comes to crunchy snacks, like I have a serious issue when I crave salt. I’m more of a savory than sweet girl you know? So not being able to eat chicks has been super lame. But now that I have these I eat them like everyday. So good for dipping in hummus or cashew cheez spread (specifically the one I mentioned above).
Gluten Free, Non GMO, Vegan, Corn Free
Found at Nature’s Fare

Extras:
Red Mill Nutritional Yeast- So far I’ve only used this stuff in sauces but I’m going to stop being a chicken and add it just raw and sprinkled onto some veggies and popcorn like it suggests. It really adds a nice savoury almost smokey cheesy flavor to sauces! Again this brand has recipes on their site as well.

The eye-opening, essential journey to a healthy mind, body and soul part 2

Ok so we covered my first initial appointment. Now let’s just dive into my 2nd.

Blood tests…. My fav…JK. But this one I was actually looking forward to because finally I would get some clear answers. So I did my fasting the night before and Monday morning there I was eager to get poked and pee in a cup. So fun right?

Then 5 days later I headed into my appt. Now since I can’t tell you everything due to the fact that I didn’t actually get that print out cuz that’s doctors eyes only stuff and I have the memory of an ant when it comes to medical terms, so I’ll just tell you what I remember.

I was dehydrated (shocker 🙄) I’m the worst at drinking water BUT I finally found a killer water bottle which I talk about on my #4 podcast. I was very acidic, and my gastrointestinal system was in my words, FUCKED UP. This was due to the common causes, most likely food intolerances, stress, infection which lead to –> disbyosis and damaging immune reaction in my mucosal lining of the gut –> aka intense gut inflammation which led to villious flattening (tentacle thing I was referring to on my podcast) which led to malabsorption. And alas my diagnosis Leaky Gut Syndrome. Basically my guts were totally trashed from the trash I was putting in my body and the stress that I was experiencing for who knows how long. Still with me???

So started the healing! REMOVE & REPLACE. The no list…which I was a little hesitant about at first but now it’s actually a breeze and I love eating the way I do and just chilling the fuck out, ya know? It feels REAL good! 😎

I know this may be a lot of reading but I’m giving you guys my actual full program that’s helped me literally back to being a light instead of a dark moody shit head. Because we all know healthy people are happy people! Keep in my mind this worked for me but may not work for others so always consult your Dr before going forward with big changes.

The elimination diet (remove):

-no nightshade veggies, tomatoes, eggplant, pepper family, potatoes…cue me crying over cutting out my best vegetable friend 😭🥔❤️

-no white anything, sugar, flour, alcohol, rice (brown rice is ok, takes fucking forever to cook so be advised well before you start dinner unlike me…)

-no dairy, eggs, peanuts, red meat

-no coffee! Thought I’d hate this one but my coffee headache and withdrawals are over and I don’t found THEE best alternative! Blog to come 😉

-no wheat or corn

-no shellfish

-no pop or drinks sweetened with sugar

– limit hot spices

Yes list:

-eat 4 different veggies per day, best if raw or steamed

-eat 3 fruit per day

-one handful of berries per day

-a variety of legumes such as split peas, lentils, and beans of all kinds.

-lots of wild fish, salmon, cod, baked or broiled or steamed

-meat of free range, chicken or turkey (I’m a pescatarian so I don’t eat these)

-healthy fats, extra virgin cold pressed olive oil, flax oil, fish oils and fats found in raw nuts and seeds. Seeds must be ground to release oils. Coconut or grapeseed oil must be used for high temp cooking.

-herbal teas, mineralized water, total fluids I’m trying to drink are 2L/day. (Again peep the podcast for the best water bottle)

-honey, maple syrup or stevia in small amounts for sweetener.

Basically this is like a gluten free, 87% vegan diet LOL but totally doable! If I can do it, you can too.

Also try to cut out products with shit in them, you know like those awful cancer causing beauty products you probably lather on your skin. Cleaning products and plastics that are hazardous, get rid of em! Look for bpa free, phthalate free, fragrance free, hypoallergenic, biofriendly products.

60 mins minimum of activity per day.

I’m currently making a list with photos of my fav food products I’ve found, so stay tuned for that.

Part 3 coming soon. Let me know your thoughts, drop me a DM, email or vmail on the podcast and let’s talk all things health!

Wishing you clean, happy, and energetic love and light today humans.

Luv yew all 💕

The eye-opening, essential journey to a healthy mind, body and soul part 1

Do you have stomach issues and are sick of modern medicine failing you? Because for as long as I can remember I’ve been suffering and wasn’t given specific answers until recently.

When I was about 17 I started to notice I would feel ill throughout the day, from that age until just a month ago (I’m 31 now). I was in and out of the doctors office. I had blood test after blood test, ultrasounds, full physicals, pretty much everything the doctor would send me for that he was able to.

Now call me a baby, but getting my blood sucked out of me like I’m a vampires steak dinner, with zero answers back is not my idea of a good time. So you can imagine how frustrating it was to go through the process and continuesly get let down.

I was tired, my skin was always breaking out, my hair was falling out, and my body and mind knew something was wrong. Alas, all my tests would come back and I was text book healthy.

After many excuses and sleepless nights, something just clicked. Why was I deliberately letting myself feel this way? How many days, weeks, months have I wasted feeling ill. I was putting my health last. How could I justify spending $100 on lash extensions every 5 weeks and not investing in my health. Seems stupid when I say it out loud LOL That’s when I made the appointment.

Your health and life are the most important. Without a clear and optimimal mind, body and spirit, you truly cannot succeed and get the things you want out of life. Starting the journey and making that consult was the best choice I’d made in years.

At my first appointment we went over my health history, what I’ve had done (testing wise), a bit of my family history. My life and some possible stressors, and of course my diet. What kind of garbage was I putting in my precious vessel. It’s funny how often you look at food and packaging and think because it has the key words “organic, gluten free, fat free” that it’s good for you…wrong. I’m a very adamant label reader now btw.

The doctor gave me a week long food journey to track my meals, what I ate, when I ate it, condiments, water and other liquid intake, and even my sleeping patterns and how long I slept.

Next we talked about the testing. I opted to get the Chemistry Panel blood test instead of the food allergy test. I had heard the food allergy test was great but for me personally we had discussed that my issues were steming from my gut, leaky gut syndrome to be exact. The food allergy test would indeed let me know what not to eat but not why it was affecting me. The Chem Panel however would tell me everything.

And with that, an open mind and open heart to properly healing myself, I was off. Off to get more blood tests but this time with some answers.

We take for granted the life we are given so often. The focus on the immediate image of ourselves becomes priority. Hair, nails, makeup, clothes. Making sure we look great on the outside but forgetting about our insides. It all starts with what’s inside. It’s true what they say, you are what you eat. Was what I was putting in my body and on my body slowly deteriorating me? I needed change. I wanted change.

I left that appointment knowing this journey was going to take patience, dedication, discipline and self belief.

Test results and more coming soon in part 2. ❤️

5 Stunning products for self care sunday

Ahhhhh Sunday. The day we get to unwind and take a little bit of extra time to do fuck all. Or brunch with the girls, or shave your cats mats off her back (ok that was only like 3 times ever), or as some people cannot help but do…stress about it being Monday the next day. Well FUCK that last one!

No more stressful Sundays. No mopping around, waiting for your 6am Monday alarm. It’s time to use Sundays to your advantage to do some quality SELF CARE. Wether your fighting back the urge to puke up last night’s mistakes aka hungover, or as chipper as a squirrel on acid, you gotta take some YOU time! I like to read, bake (gluten free, sugar free, fun free for me but hey it works), and of course, face mask time!

I’ve put together my current favorite Self Care Sunday picks with a quick review on each 💕

LoveBeautyFoods Adaptogen Mask- Guys this brand is so great! This is another one of my “quick” trip to home sense finds! I stumbled upon this little beauty and couldn’t not buy. It’s a greyish powder mask that you mix with water to make a paste then apply. I’m too lazy to use a small bowl to mix so I mix it in the lid and put it on in the bath so it’s not as messy but it leaves my skin feeling so nice and tight afterwards. Made with gotu kola, reishi, and ashwagandha. These Adaptogens when used on your skin may act as a toner and help support your adrenal functions that help you adapt to stress. This Australian brand is definitely one to check out!

Pixi Skintreats Rose Oil Blend- Face oils. My new never-to-be-skipped step in my skin care routine! I’m such a huge fan of anything rose right now! I put this oil on after my toner every single night and even in the mornings under my makeup if I need an extra dewy look and feel. It smells SO good and I’ll probably never not have this stuff on hand.

CocoKind Organic Rosewater Facial Toner- Ok this product itself will be getting it’s own review because holy fucking shit is it ever amazing. I literally use this every day and threw out my other brands of rosewater toner. This is ONE INGREDIENT k?! Simply just rose water! Zero anything added, unlike all the other toners I’ve ever tried. I use this in conjunction with witch hazel from the pharmacy and my skin loves me. You can even use this throughout the day as a skin refresher. It’s honestly so perfect I may as well marry it.

Kora Organics (by Miranda Kerr) Rose Quartz Luminizer- So the title says it all…made by a supermodel and does not disappoint. It’s actually a highlighter not a skin care product. I will admit I only bought it because the pretty packaging, the box is so cute and has rose quartz crystals on it and obviously I’m a sucker for anything crystal related. I was excited to try it however because I don’t have any cream highlighter. It’s light and a little goes a long way. I use it on my cheeks, brow bone and collar bone and its such a lovely dewy light shimmery princess pink. It’s definitely a more subtle highlight with beautiful pink undertones. Most likely will get the other colors to try as well! These are all made with/charged with crystals. Oh and this one has rose oil in it as well…WIN.

Last but not least because I saved the best for last…

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask- Lady Boner! Warning: your significant other will want to eat your face off zombie style if you put this on! This mask is my new all time favorite mask. The fresh feel and Watermelon scent is so undeniably good and it makes my skin so soft! I usually rub my face on my cats belly to get the same effect but this is almost better than that. I’m talking SOFT AF. It’s very light and cool, gel like that can be used as a 10 min mask or overnight. I personally use it over night as I’m not wasting this goodness on only 10 minutes. Worth every penny and I’ll be spending more pennies trying out all their other masks. 200% recommend!

I got my rose quartz roller from winners but will be purchasing a better one as I love using this in the am and pm to reduce puffiness in the face and smooth out the products I use.

Biotin- I take that shit everyday! Good for skin, hair and nails!

My pink spiral hair ties- If you have thick horse hair like moi and don’t like your hair being pulled unless it’s in the bedroom then go get yourself some of these. Can find at pretty much any drug store, beauty store etc.

Hope you guys found some new babies to try!! Leave me a comment of your fav go to’s!

Now go and get that glow girl! Happy Self Care Sunday!!

3 Quick tricks to regain that creative spark.

Let me start by saying I’m the queen of letting a dull uninspired mindstate get the best of me. We all have those days don’t we? Where we want to lay around and binge watch real housewives and dream of fancy, warm vacays, bottomless mimosas for breakfast. But unfortunately that shit doesn’t pay the bills. Well, not in my life it doesn’t.

So what do you do when you can’t write, create, think straight etc. Before I started this blog I was having a massive 3.0 writers block and let me tell you it’s V V ANNOYING. Like helloooo, why does it feel like there is a cute, white fluffy kitten patting a ball of red string around inside my head? It’s excruciatingly hard to concentrate some days.

I wanted to make a “how to” post about how you can instantly clear your head and get down to the nitty gritty.

Step 1: I do this every morning in my living room but it’s nice to do in a small space if you’re trying to have some quiet inspo time. Essential oils. Wether you use a diffuser or prefer some quick spray or roll on scents, my favorites currently are citrus flavors. Lemon, grapefruit and sweet orange. Citrus oils are great for enhancing your mood and help reduce feelings of anxiety and irritability. They also boost your mental energy levels and pep you the fuck up! Perfect right?!

Step 2: Breathing. Kinda need to breathe to live I know but how often do you actually just sit or lay down and have some really good breathes? Taking 5-10 mins to focus on just breathing with your belly and not your chest is so fulfilling (see what I did there?) No seriously though, it feels SO good. I like to imagine white and pink sparkly light coming in through my nose and filling up my belly as I breathe in, breathe in alllllll the way, hold it for a couple seconds and exhale. As you exhale imagine all that same white and pink sparkly, magical light is being released through your mouth, along with whatever worries, bad thoughts and negative energy you were harbouring inside you.

Step 3: Next I like to put on a few tracks and dance around in my room aka in front of mirror like a total idiot. You gotta get that blood flowing and what’s better than shaking your cute ass. Maybe I’m old but remember Electric Circus on much music circa 1999? I use to watch that religiously and dance like a maniac in my room with my door barricaded so my nosey older brothers couldn’t come in and bust me living my best life.

So there it is! Some super easy, super cheesy but effective ways to get out of your slump.

Have some other favorite ways to get inspired quickly? I want to hear them!! Comment on my latest IG post with some great ways to undull your mind and I’ll add them to a future blog or podcast!
