Living With Depression & Self Doubt

Today I wanted to be extremely raw with myself and whoever reads this. Since this is mental health awareness month I wanted to share a bit of my story.

Sometimes I find it really easy for me to write. Other times I struggle with even finding the first few words. I like to think of myself as a pretty open book, I’m good at letting myself be vulnerable and I’m learning to be more present with my emotions. I also like to think I don’t often give a shit how others view me, as their thoughts and opinions don’t define me and my reality. However, I’ve been finding that I hold myself back a lot and have had to ask myself why. I often don’t fully execute ideas and projects to my full ability. I know I could if I tried maybe just another 25% harder but I don’t.

So why don’t I? After some time looking inward I’ve come to the conclusion that somewhere deep down I must have a fear of failure and probably do care a little bit what others think of me if I don’t succeed. This stems from my history of depression. I’ve never been one to get anxiety that often but I’ve been struggling with manic depression from as far back as 11 years old.

The good news is, since I’ve become more aware of this I’ve been letting myself stay in my feelings and my “episodes” for a few minutes, and really just surrender to it. Sometimes I’ll fucking sob on the floor and lose my damn mind. It can get pretty lonely when you’re in that dark place.

But one thing resonates with me… Yes I have depression and it cannot be changed. But I’m aware I live with it and I CAN change my thoughts on the byproducts of the emotions. The byproducts being that feeling of failure and what others think of me. Here’s the thing though… PSA: These negative thoughts you experience aren’t yours! You are conditioned over the years of your life and fed these soul sucking thoughts by external sources.

Other people may have said or done things to you and put those thoughts in your head and now you believe them. Well don’t because they truly aren’t yours to begin with!! The sooner you realize that and diminish these EXTERNAL thoughts you’ll be able to control your INTERNAL growth!

Since I was actually able to get the courage to share this, I’ll be diving deeper into my history with my mental illness and writing more about my experiences with it.

This also stemmed from me stoping my podcast…I was afraid I’d fail and afraid what people would say, was I good enough? Was it boring? Do I sound dumb? But honestly fuck it. I’m doing it for the 1% out there that may need to hear what I have to say. If I can help just one person suffering from any mental illness then it’s worth it to be judged. That being said… I made a new episode. Go check it out, or don’t. But either way spread some love and compassion today. You never know who needs it.

3 Must Have Beauty Products For Under $20

I know more than anyone that it’s so incredibly easy to go a little overboard when it comes to skin care. There’s so many different products to try, new trends every month and as women…we want it all. We see the beautiful models on the ads with glowing, supple, radiant skin and we want that too so we jump on the first trend that gives us the promise of that same glow. Our bank accounts feel the pain and more often than not the stuff we spend our hard earned money on doesn’t deliver the outcome we expected. So I’m going to show you guys 3 things I picked up while on a budget that I LOVE and that actually work.

1: Life Brand Witch Hazel $5 (Shoppers Drug Mart). I use this as a toner when my more expensive toners run out and I’m not able to spend a ton. This helped clear up my breakouts. It can be found at pretty much any drug store and has a few uses. Bug bites, swelling, bruises, can also be used as a cleanser. I was using this every day and night and it worked wonderfully. If you notice a bit of dryness cut back to once a day or every other day. You can also play scientist and mix this with rose water.

Compared to Belif Witch Hazel Toner $34

2: Jardine Naturals Antibiotic Silver Gel $20 (Nature’s Fare) This all natural, cortisone free, multi purpose skin healer is Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-inflamatory.It helps heal multiple skin conditions: abscesses, acne, athlete’s foot, boils, burns, ccontact dermatitis, cuts, ecthyma eczema, erysipelas, insect and mosquito bites, itch, jock itch, nail fungus, psoriasis, rash, rosacea, scabies, surgical incisions and sunburn.I use this to replace many things including anti biotic resistant creams which are often pricey themselves, Neosporin for cuts which in my personal opinion drys my skin so bad, and mostly to replace acne spot treatments! If you put all the uses together combined in one little product, compared to all the different products you’d need for those conditions this stuff is worth the $20! Also FYI a little goes a long way.

Compared to Murad acne spot treatment $54

3: Facial Cleansing Brush $3 (Amazon) Who doesn’t have one of these??!! You are snoozing if you don’t! I use my facial brush every day and this one is tiny so it’s great for bringing in my travel tote. Not sure if you read it right so I’ll write it again.. I found this for $3!!! SUCH a steal! I caught myself standing in Sephora feeling sorry for myself and wishing I had the Clarisonic but alas I could not afford it then came this lil sweetie. Probably not as good as the name brand but until I don’t have to stress over spending my hard earned money on a high tech futuristic space brush for my face, this will do the trick!

Well that’s all folks, I hope this helps you save your wallet and your skin.Happy Shopping Loves!

Moon Milk: The Latest IG and Pinterest Trend Hitting Your Feed.

I’m sure you guys have heard and seen alllllll about this new moon milk trend popping up on your feed. Those creamy whites, golden glows, and fluffy pretty pinks. What are they exactly? Um hello they are the best thing like ever! I usually make my little concoction before bedtime to help me sleep, hence why they named it moon milk; BUT I’m also an avid day time consumer as well.

What’s in it?

Moon Milk consists of your choice nut milk beverage, warmed-up and then infused with herbs and spices. It can be garnished with edible flowers, spices, herbs, or a pip of honey.

Moon Milk supposedly came from Ayurvedic medicine, a centuries-old holistic healing system, and features several Ayurvedic ingredients, such as turmeric and ashwagandha, a plant said to have anti-inflammatory properties.

So does it actually help with sleep?

The ashwagandha in some moon milk, helps with promoting a calm peaceful state of well-being, as well as the tumeric may lower inflammation, which can create a sense of calm before bedtime. Depending on what spices and herbs you’re putting in it and their benefits, moon milk may or may not help you achieve a more zenful, peaceful slumber. I’d say it’s more likely the ritual of a warm beverage that helps aid relaxation but either way these colorful, frothy potions are delicious and totally worth trying.

I’m all about my routines and rituals so if you’re like me and like to wind down and have a special step by step process, try including one to your bedtime routine. add your favorite adaptogen and start counting those sheep!

How to make:

So I have two routes for you because as per usual I’m all about harmony. Although both are easy and quick I’m going to give you the fast and faster ways to make these babies. The Golden Tumeric Latte is the recipe for today. Gluten free, Vegan, Dairy Free.

Option one (from scratch):

Ingredients- 1Cup Coconut Milk (or nut milk of choice)
-1 tablespoon Honey or Maple Syrup for vegan
-1 teaspoon Ground Turmeric
– 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
-1/4 teaspoon Ginger

Instructions-

Combine all ingredients in a small pot over medium heat.

Heat for 10-15 minutes while whisking occasionally. Do not bring mixture to a boil.

Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Or, cool for 5 minutes then transfer to a blender, add ice and blend until frothy, iced latte.

Option two (instant packet):

Ingredients- 1 Cup of Coconut Milk (or water for even quicker latte)

1 package of Foursigmatic Golden Tumeric Latte

Instructions- Same as above, stir milk until warm OR boil water.

Pour into cup.

Add packet to cup, stir, enjoy! Super quick, super simple and mega yummy!

*For extra creamy heaven I turned coconut milk into whipped cream and added a scoop of that into the instant packet/water. Hence why this one wasn’t as golden.

Now let’s talk about Foursigmatic. I discovered this brand back in January while I was looking for a coffee alternative. After stumbling upon this brand I fell absolutely in love with their hot cocoa mix (more in depth blog to come on all their different kinds soon).

After trying a few and looking more into their background and brand I was hooked. I literally do not let my kitchen go unstocked with this stuff!

This mushroom based company hails all the way from Finland and they do not disappoint. Even if you hate mushrooms you’ll love Foursigmatic. Their teas, coffees, elixirs, and even edible beauty products do not taste like our weird little contorted alien shroomy friends. They do however give you all the benefits!

Mushrooms and adaptogens are some of the world’s most nutritious foods. But they get shiit(ake) on constantly for fickle taste opinions.
Even if they’re not your cup of tea, you’ll be amazed by how easy and delicious adding ‘shrooms to your favorite daily drinks can be. Whether you’re a black coffee, latte, hot cacao, or tea person, we have a drink made for you.

The Golden Latte contains, Organic shiitake mushroom (500mg) organic turmeric, organic tulsi, organic ginger, organic black pepper, organic stevia, organic coconut palm sugar, and organic coconut milk powder.

It is also vegan, paleo, gluten free, and caffeine free.

For more info on Foursigmatic go to http://www.foursigmatic.com and be sure to follow them on Instagram @foursigmatic for all the shroomy goodness!

Happy Moon Milkin’!!

The eye-opening, essential journey to a healthy mind, body and soul part 1

Do you have stomach issues and are sick of modern medicine failing you? Because for as long as I can remember I’ve been suffering and wasn’t given specific answers until recently.

When I was about 17 I started to notice I would feel ill throughout the day, from that age until just a month ago (I’m 31 now). I was in and out of the doctors office. I had blood test after blood test, ultrasounds, full physicals, pretty much everything the doctor would send me for that he was able to.

Now call me a baby, but getting my blood sucked out of me like I’m a vampires steak dinner, with zero answers back is not my idea of a good time. So you can imagine how frustrating it was to go through the process and continuesly get let down.

I was tired, my skin was always breaking out, my hair was falling out, and my body and mind knew something was wrong. Alas, all my tests would come back and I was text book healthy.

After many excuses and sleepless nights, something just clicked. Why was I deliberately letting myself feel this way? How many days, weeks, months have I wasted feeling ill. I was putting my health last. How could I justify spending $100 on lash extensions every 5 weeks and not investing in my health. Seems stupid when I say it out loud LOL That’s when I made the appointment.

Your health and life are the most important. Without a clear and optimimal mind, body and spirit, you truly cannot succeed and get the things you want out of life. Starting the journey and making that consult was the best choice I’d made in years.

At my first appointment we went over my health history, what I’ve had done (testing wise), a bit of my family history. My life and some possible stressors, and of course my diet. What kind of garbage was I putting in my precious vessel. It’s funny how often you look at food and packaging and think because it has the key words “organic, gluten free, fat free” that it’s good for you…wrong. I’m a very adamant label reader now btw.

The doctor gave me a week long food journey to track my meals, what I ate, when I ate it, condiments, water and other liquid intake, and even my sleeping patterns and how long I slept.

Next we talked about the testing. I opted to get the Chemistry Panel blood test instead of the food allergy test. I had heard the food allergy test was great but for me personally we had discussed that my issues were steming from my gut, leaky gut syndrome to be exact. The food allergy test would indeed let me know what not to eat but not why it was affecting me. The Chem Panel however would tell me everything.

And with that, an open mind and open heart to properly healing myself, I was off. Off to get more blood tests but this time with some answers.

We take for granted the life we are given so often. The focus on the immediate image of ourselves becomes priority. Hair, nails, makeup, clothes. Making sure we look great on the outside but forgetting about our insides. It all starts with what’s inside. It’s true what they say, you are what you eat. Was what I was putting in my body and on my body slowly deteriorating me? I needed change. I wanted change.

I left that appointment knowing this journey was going to take patience, dedication, discipline and self belief.

Test results and more coming soon in part 2. ❤️
