3 Must Have Beauty Products For Under $20

I know more than anyone that it’s so incredibly easy to go a little overboard when it comes to skin care. There’s so many different products to try, new trends every month and as women…we want it all. We see the beautiful models on the ads with glowing, supple, radiant skin and we want that too so we jump on the first trend that gives us the promise of that same glow. Our bank accounts feel the pain and more often than not the stuff we spend our hard earned money on doesn’t deliver the outcome we expected. So I’m going to show you guys 3 things I picked up while on a budget that I LOVE and that actually work.

1: Life Brand Witch Hazel $5 (Shoppers Drug Mart). I use this as a toner when my more expensive toners run out and I’m not able to spend a ton. This helped clear up my breakouts. It can be found at pretty much any drug store and has a few uses. Bug bites, swelling, bruises, can also be used as a cleanser. I was using this every day and night and it worked wonderfully. If you notice a bit of dryness cut back to once a day or every other day. You can also play scientist and mix this with rose water.

Compared to Belif Witch Hazel Toner $34

2: Jardine Naturals Antibiotic Silver Gel $20 (Nature’s Fare) This all natural, cortisone free, multi purpose skin healer is Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-inflamatory.It helps heal multiple skin conditions: abscesses, acne, athlete’s foot, boils, burns, ccontact dermatitis, cuts, ecthyma eczema, erysipelas, insect and mosquito bites, itch, jock itch, nail fungus, psoriasis, rash, rosacea, scabies, surgical incisions and sunburn.I use this to replace many things including anti biotic resistant creams which are often pricey themselves, Neosporin for cuts which in my personal opinion drys my skin so bad, and mostly to replace acne spot treatments! If you put all the uses together combined in one little product, compared to all the different products you’d need for those conditions this stuff is worth the $20! Also FYI a little goes a long way.

Compared to Murad acne spot treatment $54

3: Facial Cleansing Brush $3 (Amazon) Who doesn’t have one of these??!! You are snoozing if you don’t! I use my facial brush every day and this one is tiny so it’s great for bringing in my travel tote. Not sure if you read it right so I’ll write it again.. I found this for $3!!! SUCH a steal! I caught myself standing in Sephora feeling sorry for myself and wishing I had the Clarisonic but alas I could not afford it then came this lil sweetie. Probably not as good as the name brand but until I don’t have to stress over spending my hard earned money on a high tech futuristic space brush for my face, this will do the trick!

Well that’s all folks, I hope this helps you save your wallet and your skin.Happy Shopping Loves!

My Super Specific Morning Routine

Since I know everyone loves a good am routine I figured I’d join the club and tell you all about mine with every detail imaginable.

But first my pre wake up is my cat. My angel darling sweet boy likes to try to wake me up usually an hour before my alarm because he thinks that is when I want to snuggle….I do not. So after like 5 mins of him touching my face with his stinky cat litter paw and licking my salty eyelids I try to push him away or I’ll grab him and hold him down until he gives up and goes back to bed. Super annoying, this is a for sure thing every damn day. I hate it but if I’m being honest I love it.

We snuggle and go back to sleep until my alarm. I have a Google pixel 2 (not totally sold on this though, thinking of going back to iPhone… thoughts?) However, it has this really cool function called Google assistant routine. So I have my alarm set for 6:45am. As soon as that alarm goes off my “assistant” says good morning, because who doesn’t want to be woken up by a cold robotic toned woman in the morning?? She then tells me the weather for the day, goes over anything in my calendar, reminders and then plays me a podcast! SUCH a fun little trick to actually wake me up and get me going.

I may hit snooze for 10 mins to just get that extra slow none rushed wake up brain zen going, ya know? I hate having an alarm go off and just jumping out of bed so I do 15 mins prior to the time I actually want to be up. After about 10-15 mins I usually turn my podcast off if I need silence, to do some morning meditation in bed. I just lay exactly where I am and practice belly breathing and I like to repeat certain things. Setting my intentions for the day is key so nothing can fuck with me! Make yourself and your space unfuckwithable! I do this usually 5 minutes. Practicing longer meditation but it’s really hard for me to be still and turn off my thoughts for long but this is something I’m working on.

By this time Fish (my cat) is awake and needs his morning attention. I literally cannot even touch my phone because he will head bump it right out of my cold white dead hands that have zero circulation because it’s freezing in my house.

We spend a good 15 (ok maybe longer) snuggling and talking. He walks over my head, claws at the blanket to get under, rubs his lips and mouth on my face, you know the usual. No morning is complete without him! I wake my daughter up at 7:15 and she gets ready for school. She’s 10 so she’s very independent and gets her own breakfast, makes her own lunch etc. It’s sad and I feel like she doesn’t need me anymore lol time for more cats?

While she’s getting ready and I’m done the meditation and snuggles I sit in bed and chug as much cold water as I can. I bought a giant water bottle that holds 1.2L of water and keeps it cold for 24 hours but for reals FOREVER. It’s unreal. I got it from home sense for $15!! The brand is called Takeya. You need one! Life changing!!

Next I get up and put on my black yoga pants that I got from Ardenes for like $10 because they have the softest furry lining and they are ultra comfy. These are my go to’s but if they are in the laundry I’ll grab the next comfy choice. I have my big over sized Taylor Gang blue hoodie hanging up waiting for me to slip my frail cold body into and my fuzzy socks. My mom literally buys me a new pair every chance she gets. Go mom! And my fiance’s giant slippers that I stole that are aka mine, and I’m off to the bathroom for my am skin care routine. I have my pants, socks and slippers next to my bed in a laundry basket the night before so they’re ready to go. HATE being cold and rummaging around for clothes.

Am skin care: this actually varies because I have a few different favs that I’m loving at the moment and this needs an entire blog to itself. (Will post asap!) I do my am routine and once I’m finished I head to the kitchen, put the kiddos lunch etc in her bag and do her hair. The one thing she’s not the best at but again I’m psychotic and need to do it myself so she doesn’t look like shes living outside the house in a van. I drive her to school and head back.

As soon as I’m back I fill up my diffuser with whatever oil I’m having a moment with. Right now it’s called Clary sage and OMFG it’s the best smell. You know those scents you smell and they trigger moments in your life and you can literally remember times you had with that scent?! This one smells like a cream I use to use that I got from the skin care clinic I use to go to a few years ago and it’s like a summery fresh but almost floral but not like old lady flower floral ya know? I got it in a big pack from winners that has 14 oils in it. It’s hands down the best one I’ve found, and has ALL my favorite kinds inside. Grapefruit, lemon, blood orange, cinnamon, so many good ones!

I feed the cats and my bird, open all my blinds so it’s nice and bright and I sweep my kitchen floor. I cannot make breakfast if my floor is dirty. I’ll usually open my windows too if it’s not freezing outside. (These routines will vary with the season changes).

My kitchen is most likely clean because I wash dishes after dinner. I swear I’m not ocd…or maybe I am? I clean my house numerous times a day, maybe I have a problem?! I just need a clean environment ok?! I think having a clean space is EXTREMELY important to time management. I can’t function in dark messy places.

Once my floors are clean, blinds open, house smelling fresh I make breakfast. I either do gluten free oatmeal with fruit and nuts. Mostly cashews because that’s my main nut, but I’ll settle for a pecan or walnut I suppose. Some say a nut is a nut but once again I’m picky. Whaddya do?

Or I’ll do coconut dairy free yogurt with gluten free granola…YUM! And last but my new fav and not least. A toasted gluten free bagel with vegan mayo, lettuce, bacon Maple flavored tempeh, avacado, little bit of hotsauce and of course herbamare herbed sea salt. So delish guys, you need to try. You can put tomato on too for a “VLT” but I cant have tomatoes right now so I exnayed it.

Aaaaaandddd now that that’s done I’m off for the rest of my day. Afternoon routine coming soon?

Jesus Christ I hope I didn’t scare you guys away! haha If you guys liked this blog post, let me know your thoughts, drop me a DM, comment on my latest instagram post, email me, anything! Always love feedback 🙂 Thanks for reading.

My top 8 new favorite finds – Vegan & gluten free!

Guys this gluten free, almost vegan thing ain’t no joke! For someone who loves the convenience of a one stop shop, this definitely hasn’t been easy. So here I am today now shopping at a few different places because god forbid every brand be in one spot. (Note these are things I’ve found here in Canada)

I wanted to make a list of some of the great finds I’ve scored lately and where to get them so I can save you the headache! I wish future me thought of this so it was already written and present me didn’t have to fuck around and do it herself..myself? Whatever. You get the point. Ok so here goes it!

Meat aka Veat:
Upton’s Naturals Jackfruit- The few I’ve found come in BBQ, Thai Curry, and Original. I haven’t tried the Original yet as I like a lil extra flavor already on my JF. Ok so I’m now a HUGE fan of jackfruit. I tried it for my first time at Surf City Blitz Festival in Huntington Beach and since then I can’t not have this in my fridge.

Vegan, Gluten Free and non GMO
Found at Nature’s Fare and Choices Market

Gardein Ground Beef- I use to like the Yves brand best for ground beef (still like, it’s just now in second place). This brand however, I prefer better! They also have a massive product selection. Fake chicken, fishless filets, crabless crab cakes, even sweet and sour porkless bites! I’ll definitely be trying many of these soon.

Vegan, Gluten Free, Non GMO
Found at Nature’s Fare, Choices Market and Superstore

CHEEZ:
Daiya Dairy Free Shredded Cheese- I’ve tried both kinds, mozzarella and cheddar, mostly for vegan sauces to add some thickness but have since then tried it in a few dishes and I must say for someone who’s an insane real cheese freak, I actually am quite surprised by this stuff. Melts just like real cheese and has the same texture and flavor when mixed into your dish. Their website even has a ton of recipes to try with their various items and I’m LIVING for them!

Vegan, Gluten Free, Soy Free, Peanut Free
Found at Nature’s Fare, Superstore, Save-On and Choices Market

Spread Em Kitchen Co- Alright everyone, stop what you’re doing and go get this stuff like NOW. To date, my all time favorite Cheez substitute, like ever! I’ve only tried the Jalepeno Lemon and Chive & Garlic, and both are straight fire. The creamy texture is perfect for dipping, spreading (hence the name which is already hilarious and clever) and sauces. I’ve made ranch dip out of them and they are just so bomb. Another Canadian company that is a new staple in my fridge. MUST TRY! Their site has some tasty recipes as well.

Snacky Snacks:
Hippie Snacks Califlower Crisps- OMFG I randomly stumbled upon these delicious little fuckers while on a road trip to the middle of nowhere and they blew my mind. A) how did I not know these existed and B) where can I get a lifetime supply?! Simple as they sound, just Califlower crisps with some sea salt. Perfect lil road bites.

Cauliflower Crisps

Non GMO, Gluten Free, Plant Based
Found these at Nesters Market, can also order them online thru Amazon

Noble Jerky Teriyaki- When I use to eat meat beef jerky was a stable after I had too many hits from the bong (half kidding). Since I haven’t eaten it in years or bong hoots for that matter I kind of forgot how good it was. This was another random find at Winners in their check out lane and I’m hooked!! Tastes exactly like what I think I remember beef jerky tasted like.
Vegan, Non GMO, Soy based

Found at Winners and Nature’s Fare, also sold online

True North Gluten Free Baked Is Best Crackers- Alright these are a Game Changer! I’ve found it so hard to find gluten free snacks with little, if none, sugar added that still tasted great and these exceeded my expectations. Not only that but they’re made right here in BC!! WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! I’m such a needy B when it comes to crunchy snacks, like I have a serious issue when I crave salt. I’m more of a savory than sweet girl you know? So not being able to eat chicks has been super lame. But now that I have these I eat them like everyday. So good for dipping in hummus or cashew cheez spread (specifically the one I mentioned above).
Gluten Free, Non GMO, Vegan, Corn Free
Found at Nature’s Fare

Extras:
Red Mill Nutritional Yeast- So far I’ve only used this stuff in sauces but I’m going to stop being a chicken and add it just raw and sprinkled onto some veggies and popcorn like it suggests. It really adds a nice savoury almost smokey cheesy flavor to sauces! Again this brand has recipes on their site as well.

The eye-opening, essential journey to a healthy mind, body and soul part 1

Do you have stomach issues and are sick of modern medicine failing you? Because for as long as I can remember I’ve been suffering and wasn’t given specific answers until recently.

When I was about 17 I started to notice I would feel ill throughout the day, from that age until just a month ago (I’m 31 now). I was in and out of the doctors office. I had blood test after blood test, ultrasounds, full physicals, pretty much everything the doctor would send me for that he was able to.

Now call me a baby, but getting my blood sucked out of me like I’m a vampires steak dinner, with zero answers back is not my idea of a good time. So you can imagine how frustrating it was to go through the process and continuesly get let down.

I was tired, my skin was always breaking out, my hair was falling out, and my body and mind knew something was wrong. Alas, all my tests would come back and I was text book healthy.

After many excuses and sleepless nights, something just clicked. Why was I deliberately letting myself feel this way? How many days, weeks, months have I wasted feeling ill. I was putting my health last. How could I justify spending $100 on lash extensions every 5 weeks and not investing in my health. Seems stupid when I say it out loud LOL That’s when I made the appointment.

Your health and life are the most important. Without a clear and optimimal mind, body and spirit, you truly cannot succeed and get the things you want out of life. Starting the journey and making that consult was the best choice I’d made in years.

At my first appointment we went over my health history, what I’ve had done (testing wise), a bit of my family history. My life and some possible stressors, and of course my diet. What kind of garbage was I putting in my precious vessel. It’s funny how often you look at food and packaging and think because it has the key words “organic, gluten free, fat free” that it’s good for you…wrong. I’m a very adamant label reader now btw.

The doctor gave me a week long food journey to track my meals, what I ate, when I ate it, condiments, water and other liquid intake, and even my sleeping patterns and how long I slept.

Next we talked about the testing. I opted to get the Chemistry Panel blood test instead of the food allergy test. I had heard the food allergy test was great but for me personally we had discussed that my issues were steming from my gut, leaky gut syndrome to be exact. The food allergy test would indeed let me know what not to eat but not why it was affecting me. The Chem Panel however would tell me everything.

And with that, an open mind and open heart to properly healing myself, I was off. Off to get more blood tests but this time with some answers.

We take for granted the life we are given so often. The focus on the immediate image of ourselves becomes priority. Hair, nails, makeup, clothes. Making sure we look great on the outside but forgetting about our insides. It all starts with what’s inside. It’s true what they say, you are what you eat. Was what I was putting in my body and on my body slowly deteriorating me? I needed change. I wanted change.

I left that appointment knowing this journey was going to take patience, dedication, discipline and self belief.

Test results and more coming soon in part 2. ❤️

Gluten free vegan alfredo sauce.

So I never once in my life considered being vegan and that’s mainly because I FUCKING LOVE CHEESE! And to be fair I’m pescatarian so I’m kinda close right? Well that changed just a few weeks ago. I wanted to get to the root of all my stomach and health issues (seperate blog touching more on that soon). So I started seeing a naturopath that put me on a new lifestyle change, I say that because I don’t prefer the term “diet”.

With this new change comes the no no’s…no dairy, no wheat, no nightshade veggies, no coffee, no alcohol (tragic I know), no white anything (rice, potatoes, sugar etc). I never realized how much I actually cooked with and incorporated both wheat and some dairy into my meals.

So with that, it was time to get creative. I got the pass from both the husband and child so that’s all I needed to hear! But not to toot my own friggen horn, it was pretty gosh damn good. So here it goes!

1 cup of coconut milk (use canned for thicker/full fat)
1 cup vegetable broth
1 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tsp basil
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp 3 onion mix- epicure brand
1 tbsp nutritional yeast
1 tbsp almond flour (can use any flour you choose, no reg white though)
1/2 cup daiya shredded cheese (can use any vegan Parm cheese to thicken up sauce if you don’t like using corn starch)
Himalayan pink salt and pepper to taste

Brown rice fettuccine noodles

I used mushrooms, broccoli and green beans mixed with some meatless ground beef (I love the gardein brand!).

1. Since this sauce doesn’t take too long I started the noodles and veg right away. I don’t think I need to explain how to boil noodles. If you arent sure how to boil noodles but are trying out cooking vegan sauce I vote you go back and learn noodles first LOL. Use 1tbsp coconut oil in pan, or grape seed oil if you don’t like the taste of coconut. Cook veggies, add veef….jk I don’t think I like that word. Just made it up but it sounds too much like queef so just exnay that.

2. Add 1tbsp coconut oil to sauce pan, add garlic and all spices and herbs. Fresh herbs are always better for more flavor but if you’re a triple B…broke babe on a budget then dried works just fine. Let cook for 1 min, stirring.

3. Add the liquids, nutritional yeast and flour. Let cook 8 mins.

4. Add daiya shredded cheese to thicken (or vegan Parm, or corn starch if you don’t give a shit about it being made from alien modified corn).

5. Watch that bitch cook and thicken for like an extra 5-7 mins. Add salt and pepper to taste. Can also add more spices if you taste it and it’s bland. I usually just dump a bunch in but I gave you average measurements.

Watch the video to see my cooking process. Then maybe decide if this recipe is for you 😂.

Happy Cookin’ Ya’ll!!!
