Moon Milk: The Latest IG and Pinterest Trend Hitting Your Feed.

I’m sure you guys have heard and seen alllllll about this new moon milk trend popping up on your feed. Those creamy whites, golden glows, and fluffy pretty pinks. What are they exactly? Um hello they are the best thing like ever! I usually make my little concoction before bedtime to help me sleep, hence why they named it moon milk; BUT I’m also an avid day time consumer as well.

What’s in it?

Moon Milk consists of your choice nut milk beverage, warmed-up and then infused with herbs and spices. It can be garnished with edible flowers, spices, herbs, or a pip of honey.

Moon Milk supposedly came from Ayurvedic medicine, a centuries-old holistic healing system, and features several Ayurvedic ingredients, such as turmeric and ashwagandha, a plant said to have anti-inflammatory properties.

So does it actually help with sleep?

The ashwagandha in some moon milk, helps with promoting a calm peaceful state of well-being, as well as the tumeric may lower inflammation, which can create a sense of calm before bedtime. Depending on what spices and herbs you’re putting in it and their benefits, moon milk may or may not help you achieve a more zenful, peaceful slumber. I’d say it’s more likely the ritual of a warm beverage that helps aid relaxation but either way these colorful, frothy potions are delicious and totally worth trying.

I’m all about my routines and rituals so if you’re like me and like to wind down and have a special step by step process, try including one to your bedtime routine. add your favorite adaptogen and start counting those sheep!

How to make:

So I have two routes for you because as per usual I’m all about harmony. Although both are easy and quick I’m going to give you the fast and faster ways to make these babies. The Golden Tumeric Latte is the recipe for today. Gluten free, Vegan, Dairy Free.

Option one (from scratch):

Ingredients- 1Cup Coconut Milk (or nut milk of choice)
-1 tablespoon Honey or Maple Syrup for vegan
-1 teaspoon Ground Turmeric
– 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
-1/4 teaspoon Ginger

Instructions-

Combine all ingredients in a small pot over medium heat.

Heat for 10-15 minutes while whisking occasionally. Do not bring mixture to a boil.

Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Or, cool for 5 minutes then transfer to a blender, add ice and blend until frothy, iced latte.

Option two (instant packet):

Ingredients- 1 Cup of Coconut Milk (or water for even quicker latte)

1 package of Foursigmatic Golden Tumeric Latte

Instructions- Same as above, stir milk until warm OR boil water.

Pour into cup.

Add packet to cup, stir, enjoy! Super quick, super simple and mega yummy!

*For extra creamy heaven I turned coconut milk into whipped cream and added a scoop of that into the instant packet/water. Hence why this one wasn’t as golden.

Now let’s talk about Foursigmatic. I discovered this brand back in January while I was looking for a coffee alternative. After stumbling upon this brand I fell absolutely in love with their hot cocoa mix (more in depth blog to come on all their different kinds soon).

After trying a few and looking more into their background and brand I was hooked. I literally do not let my kitchen go unstocked with this stuff!

This mushroom based company hails all the way from Finland and they do not disappoint. Even if you hate mushrooms you’ll love Foursigmatic. Their teas, coffees, elixirs, and even edible beauty products do not taste like our weird little contorted alien shroomy friends. They do however give you all the benefits!

Mushrooms and adaptogens are some of the world’s most nutritious foods. But they get shiit(ake) on constantly for fickle taste opinions.
Even if they’re not your cup of tea, you’ll be amazed by how easy and delicious adding ‘shrooms to your favorite daily drinks can be. Whether you’re a black coffee, latte, hot cacao, or tea person, we have a drink made for you.

The Golden Latte contains, Organic shiitake mushroom (500mg) organic turmeric, organic tulsi, organic ginger, organic black pepper, organic stevia, organic coconut palm sugar, and organic coconut milk powder.

It is also vegan, paleo, gluten free, and caffeine free.

For more info on Foursigmatic go to http://www.foursigmatic.com and be sure to follow them on Instagram @foursigmatic for all the shroomy goodness!

Happy Moon Milkin’!!

Baked jackfruit and rice w/ vegan buffalo sauce

Alright this Daiya cheese faze I’m in is seriously unreal. WHO WOULDA THUNK?! I love my damn cheese but I think I can get use to this fake Cheez vegan thing guys 😏

Made this the other night and was not disappointed.

So I used the Upton’s Naturals Jackfruit- Thai Curry Sauce. You can google how to prepare jackfruit from scratch or use pre packaged which I like because, helloooo convenience!

Heat up a tbsp of coconut oil, cook jackfruit in pan with chickpeas for 5-8 mins.

I used brown rice and only cooked for half the time. Drain, Add to baking dish with jackfruit and chickpeas.

1 cup coconut milk
1/4 cup Frank’s (or preferred buffalo sauce)
2 tbsp coconut oil or vegan butter
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
2 tbsp maple syrup (can use raw honey)
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp paprika
1/2 cup daiya shredded cheese

Put all other ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Taste test if it’s spicy enough for you and add more buffalo sauce if needed. Pour over rice, chickpeas and jackfruit, mix together.

Bake uncovered on 350f for 20 mins. EASY PEASY! Hope you enjoy this dish as much as I did.

Gluten free vegan alfredo sauce.

So I never once in my life considered being vegan and that’s mainly because I FUCKING LOVE CHEESE! And to be fair I’m pescatarian so I’m kinda close right? Well that changed just a few weeks ago. I wanted to get to the root of all my stomach and health issues (seperate blog touching more on that soon). So I started seeing a naturopath that put me on a new lifestyle change, I say that because I don’t prefer the term “diet”.

With this new change comes the no no’s…no dairy, no wheat, no nightshade veggies, no coffee, no alcohol (tragic I know), no white anything (rice, potatoes, sugar etc). I never realized how much I actually cooked with and incorporated both wheat and some dairy into my meals.

So with that, it was time to get creative. I got the pass from both the husband and child so that’s all I needed to hear! But not to toot my own friggen horn, it was pretty gosh damn good. So here it goes!

1 cup of coconut milk (use canned for thicker/full fat)
1 cup vegetable broth
1 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tsp basil
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp 3 onion mix- epicure brand
1 tbsp nutritional yeast
1 tbsp almond flour (can use any flour you choose, no reg white though)
1/2 cup daiya shredded cheese (can use any vegan Parm cheese to thicken up sauce if you don’t like using corn starch)
Himalayan pink salt and pepper to taste

Brown rice fettuccine noodles

I used mushrooms, broccoli and green beans mixed with some meatless ground beef (I love the gardein brand!).

1. Since this sauce doesn’t take too long I started the noodles and veg right away. I don’t think I need to explain how to boil noodles. If you arent sure how to boil noodles but are trying out cooking vegan sauce I vote you go back and learn noodles first LOL. Use 1tbsp coconut oil in pan, or grape seed oil if you don’t like the taste of coconut. Cook veggies, add veef….jk I don’t think I like that word. Just made it up but it sounds too much like queef so just exnay that.

2. Add 1tbsp coconut oil to sauce pan, add garlic and all spices and herbs. Fresh herbs are always better for more flavor but if you’re a triple B…broke babe on a budget then dried works just fine. Let cook for 1 min, stirring.

3. Add the liquids, nutritional yeast and flour. Let cook 8 mins.

4. Add daiya shredded cheese to thicken (or vegan Parm, or corn starch if you don’t give a shit about it being made from alien modified corn).

5. Watch that bitch cook and thicken for like an extra 5-7 mins. Add salt and pepper to taste. Can also add more spices if you taste it and it’s bland. I usually just dump a bunch in but I gave you average measurements.

Watch the video to see my cooking process. Then maybe decide if this recipe is for you 😂.

Happy Cookin’ Ya’ll!!!
